Regarding the following: any reference to the United States or any other Western country should be viewed as bounded within 6 brackets. What follows is a reasoned attempt to prepare some psychological tools of argument just in case Russia really does betray Syria and posters pop up to defend such a betrayal on this site.

West of the Euphrates

“Moscow said it would treat any plane from the US-led coalition
flying WEST of the Euphrates river as a potential target.”

Why not EAST of the Euphrates?
Why is Syria to be defended only on ONE side and not on the other?

I hope the Russian Federation is only referring to operational matters and not to a long-term policy, i.e. a partitioning of Syria. Is Russia preparing our minds for a Syrian Kurdistan?

Russia states it is fighting to defend Syria to prevent it falling to “terrorists” (i.e. Zionist proxies) who will use it as a base to attack Russia. If Israel 2.0 pops up “East of the Euphrates” you can bet it will be another breeding ground for such “terrorists”.

Any acceptance by Russia of a partitioned Syria will contradict its stated aim of its intervention in Syria.

Russia surely knows that these “terrorists” are US mercenaries; just as it surely knows that the Kurdish YPG/SDF forces are similar US proxies. ISIS cleared the way for a Kurdish “Syria-East-of-the-Euphrates”; this is why ISIS always moves when the Kurds show up.

LD:  Note that the Kurds are based EAST of the Euphrates and that the Kurds are supported by the US and Israel. This eastern segment of Syria could split off from Syria and one day become an independent state: Syrian Kurdistan. Both the US and Israel would like to see this partition of Syria. If Russia accedes to the plan, it has effectively betrayed Syria by agreeing to its fragmentation. [LD]

The elephant in this particular room is always Israel — a pachyderm brandishing a document in its trunk called “Oded Yinon”. Thus any acceptance of a partitioned Syria is de facto a Zionist action. Nothing more needs to be said on this blindingly obvious point.

The real sophists will try to defend any Russian collusion in the partition of Syria with the cry that “Russia could not prevent it! Besides, Russia was only defending its own interests, not Syria’s!”

These arguments would be specious; we should reject them at once.

We can dismiss the second part of that lie by referring the sophist back to Russia’s stated intent, i.e. defending Syria is defending Russia. The first part is far harder to dismiss and that is the door through which a deluge of apologetics for Russia will flood the forums  — if the Russian Federation does indeed endorse partition of Syria.

How to pre-empt the sophistry of the first part? I really don’t know. Russia has potent allies in the region, such as the SAA, Iran and Hezbollah — surely Russia could easily lead these forces to victory over the Zionist headchoppers? I really can’t buy the argument that the Zionists are invincible, not on the field of battle at any rate. Also note that Russia has always fought two steps forward and then one step back, e.g. the partial stand-down order, the recurrent ceasefires. Of course the sophist will then argue that this is all part of a clever propaganda campaign.

Stating that you are only going to defend Syria “West of the Euphrates” — as Russa has done, sounds like a boon to the Kurds; and a piece of sophistry from Russia designed to fool the rest of us.

The nuclear argument also has no place in this debate. if nukes exist, no-one will use them out of fear of retaliation. If nukes don’t exist, then nothing will happen.

So that’s it. My final, final post.

You all know who will defend Russia if Syria is partitioned and I have consistently tried to lay the groundwork for defence against such hasbara nonsense.

And that is what is will be — defending Russia’s role in any partition of Syria will be an act of propaganda on this site, not an example of free debate. It will be an act of downright treachery!

You cannot say no-one tried to warn you.

Adios.

LD: Rest assured, dear Flopot, we have no intention of defending Russia’s role in the partition of Syria if this should ever take place. One or two of our more fanatical Putin supporters will doubtless continue to defend Putin to the last gasp, making excuses for him no matter what he does, but this will not apply to the rest of us. We will defend Putin only as long as he behaves honorably.
